Peloton Studios NYC Tips and Tricks

How I got into a class

My husband was invited into a Father’s Day ride at Peloton Studios NYC. Since then I’ve been jealous, haha! I kept checking the schedule at Peloton Studios New York but the classes always said “FULL”. Eventually I started to see “JOIN WAITLIST” for a few classes. However, if I was going to take a trip into Manhattan, I wanted it to be for one of my favorite instructors.

Finally, about a week before my class I saw “JOIN WAITLIST” for a 45 minute Classic Rock ride with Jenn Sherman and a 30 minute Glutes & Legs Strength class with Callie Gullickson. Jenn and Callie are my favorite Peloton instructors so I joined the waitlist for both! I didn’t think I had a shot of getting into either class, but to my surprise, I got into both! Unfortunately I had to choose because they were both at the same time. I chose the Jenn Sherman ride.

You don’t have to pay to join the waitlist. I highly recommend joining the waitlist for any classes that interest you! Waitlist spots do count towards the weekly limit of four in-person classes. If you’re chosen off the waitlist, you must claim your spot within two hours of receiving the email and pay the $35 fee for the class.

Arriving at Peloton Studios NYC

You must be checked in 45-60 minutes before the start of your class. Therefore, I wanted to allow plenty of time to get there. You never know what will happen with public transportation! Peloton Studios NYC is an easy walk from Penn Station, located at 370 10th Avenue, between 31st St. and 33rd St.

I checked in as soon as I arrived and was given a red card and bracelet. If it’s your first in-person class you’re in the red group which is the first group let into the studio after any special guests. I had plenty of time to kill so I just wanted to explore. I couldn’t believe I was actually at Peloton Studios! Jess King was taking photos with the riders from her class. Callie Gullickson had a couple of classes that day so I was hoping to run into her but I never did. I went to the upper level to hang out in the Peloton shop. A woman walking towards me looked like Jenn Sherman…and then I realized that it was JENN SHERMAN! I was definitely starstruck! She was leaving the building during a break between her classes.

Getting ready for class at Peloton Studios NYC

When it was getting closer to my class time I headed to the locker room to get ready. It’s a beautiful space with lockers, bathrooms, showers, and lots of amenities! I grabbed my bike shoes, water bottle, and phone and stored everything else in a locker. You can rent shoes there, but I was more comfortable just using my own. Water is sold there as well, but if you bring a reusable water bottle there are plenty of water fountains where you can fill it up.

Bike classes are in Studio 1. You’re supposed to be outside the studio 30-45 minutes before the start of your class. A little less than 30 minutes before the start time they lined us up by color. Then the doors opened! A bunch of Peloton employees were attending my class and they walked into the studio first. Next was the red group, mine! They let us in four at a time. I was in the beginning of the red group.

Getting situated in the Peloton studio

Employees hand out towels as you walk into the studio. Then you pick your bike. It’s first come, first served. A couple who walked in in front of me grabbed the last two bikes in the front row. I ended up being in the second row, a few bikes away from the mirror. I ride the Peloton Bike+ at home, so I needed some help getting situated on my studio bike. There are plenty of people walking around to help. Make sure you know your log-in info so you show up on the leaderboard!

About 10 minutes before the start of class a recording of Jenn Sherman started, getting everyone excited. When the recording ended she walked in, and I had no idea she’d be walking in right behind me! Another star struck moment. You can take photos and videos until the studio starts recording. I took lots of pictures and got a great video of Jenn walking in and welcoming all of us to the ride. She said, “Kirsten just reminded me it was a 45 minute ride, God help me!” Jenn always cracks me up!

The Peloton Studios NYC ride experience

I usually do one 45 minute ride a week, but I was still a little nervous about how I’d hold up in the studio. Adrenaline definitely kept me going! The actual ride was a bit of a blur, but I kept thinking that I couldn’t believe I was taking an in-person ride with Jenn Sherman! It really was a blast.

I’ve become less of a competitor on the leaderboard lately, but it was still fun to know that everyone in the studio was at the same point of the ride as me. It made me want to push a little harder when I saw that someone else’s output was close to mine. I ended up finishing in the middle of the pack. Jenn had a killer playlist for this ride. Some of my favorites were “The Boys Are Back in Town”, “Crocodile Rock”, “The Entertainer”, “Free Ride”, and “Midnight Rider”.

The Peloton Studios NYC post-ride experience

Instructors take photos and chat with members after classes. The line moved quickly, but I was really impressed with how personable Jenn Sherman was! She introduced herself to each person that went up to her, asked questions, and didn’t rush the line along. When it was my turn, she told me she could tell I was riding for a long time since she hadn’t seen the Peloton shirt I was wearing in a while.

I told her that taking this ride was definitely a bucket list item for me. She asked me if I traveled far, and I told her that I’m from Long Island, but with young kids it’s hard to get away for the day. She agreed. I follow Jenn on Instagram and told her that I love all the funny things she posts about her kids (they’re in their 20s now) and she responded that they don’t love it. I told her that I hope I’m as cool a mom as she is when my kids are that age and she laughed. It was such a nice conversation!
