Peloton Boxing Review: Get Addicted to a Tough yet Fun Workout!

Pack a punch with one of Peloton’s newer additions to its platform – boxing!
In this blog post, I will be giving a Peloton boxing review. Peloton offers a multitude of boxing options – its Get Hooked program, shadowboxing classes, and boxing bootcamp classes. I’ll also discuss the equipment needed for these classes. Spoiler alert – not much at all!
Before getting our Peloton, I was not someone who enjoyed working out. I’d dabble here and there with the elliptical at the gym. I did enjoy practicing yoga before the covid pandemic, but being a mom of one baby at the time, it was tough to get out of the house. Between my self-induced mom guilt of leaving the baby and just not having the energy to want to leave the house, it was a struggle to go to class once a week.
My husband and I bought our Peloton in October 2021. It started with wanting to lose the baby weight after having my second daughter and also wanting an easy way to exercise during the pandemic. Now, over two years later, I can’t imagine my life without our Peloton. Besides seeing the physical benefits, there are many mental benefits such as the natural high I feel from making it through a tough interval and the mood booster from the Peloton instructor quotes. Peloton makes working out fun from the variety of classes to the awesome music options to the amazing instructors.
I decided to give Peloton’s boxing classes a try a few months ago. Boxing definitely intimidated me especially since I never took any kind of boxing classes before. One of my favorite Peloton bike instructors – Kendall Toole – teaches some of the boxing classes which is one of the main reasons I wanted to give it a shot. It’s safe to say that I’m now hooked. I’m confident that after reading this Peloton boxing review you will be inspired to get hooked too.

Overview of Peloton Platform
Peloton started in 2012 but gained a lot of popularity in 2020 during the covid pandemic. Peloton offers two bike products – the Peloton Bike and Bike+, two treadmill products – the Peloton Tread and Tread+, the Peloton Row for rowing, the Peloton Guide for strength training, and the Peloton app.
The Peloton app is a great health and fitness gift for moms. With the Peloton app, you can take any class offered on the platform – strength (weights, bodyweight, barre, pilates, and boxing bootcamp), meditation, cycling, stretching, yoga, outdoor (audio only), running, walking, cardio (HIIT and shadowboxing), tread bootcamp, bike bootcamp, rowing, and row bootcamp.
The Peloton app, one of my favorite self-care apps for moms, has a free 30-day trial and then three membership options – Peloton App Free, Peloton App One, and Peloton App+. Peloton App Free is free with a limited number of classes. Peloton App One and Peloton App+ are $12.99 per month and $24 per month after the free trial respectively. The difference between Peloton App One and Peloton App+ is that with Peloton App One you only get 3 cardio equipment classes (ie. cycling, treadmill, or rowing) per month and with Peloton App+, you get an unlimited number of cardio equipment classes.
Equipment needed for Peloton boxing
Peloton’s shadowboxing classes can be found in the cardio category, and the boxing bootcamp classes can be found in the strength category. The nice thing about the boxing classes is that minimal equipment is needed!
Exercise mat
One nice-to-have piece of equipment for Peloton’s boxing classes is an exercise mat, but it’s definitely not required. However, a cushioned, non-skid surface to exercise on can make boxing more comfortable and safer.
Dumbbells
Another nice-to-have piece of equipment is light weights (3 pounds or less). They’re definitely optional for the shadowboxing classes but can make the workouts more challenging. Heavier dumbbells, such as 10 pounds and 20 pounds, are needed for the boxing bootcamp classes.

Peloton Boxing Review of Get Hooked: Peloton Boxing Program
I decided to start with Peloton’s Get Hooked: Peloton Boxing program. It’s a two week program that starts with boxing basics classes and ends with shadowboxing classes. The boxing basics classes are only available in this program, not on the regular platform.
Week One
There are five classes in Week One. The recommendation is to take them five days in a row and then take two rest days. Day 1 is a 20 minute boxing basics class. The second day is a 20 minute boxing basics class focused on combinations. Day 3 is a 20 minute boxing basics class focused on footwork. The fourth day is a 20 minute boxing basics class focused on defense. Finally, Day 5 is a 20 minute boxing basics class.
Week Two
Week Two progresses to 30 minute shadowboxing classes and adds a 5 minute full body warm up class before and a 5 minute full body stretch class after each shadowboxing class for a total of nine classes in the week. The recommended schedule is workouts on Days 1, 3, and 5, and rest days on Days 2, 4, 6, and 7.
The Bottom Line
I loved this program! I was definitely a little intimidated to get started, but all of the Boxing Basics classes helped me get up to speed.
It was definitely helpful to have the basic techniques spread out over five days. Starting with the punches, then putting the punches together for combinations, then footwork, then defensive techniques, and then ending in a review of the week made it all much less overwhelming.
I felt ready to move on to Week Two, and was so excited to get into regular shadowboxing classes. The instructors – Kendall Toole, Rad Lopez, and Selena Samuela were all fantastic! I really can’t think of any negatives of the program. I highly recommend starting with this program if you don’t have much boxing experience.

Peloton Boxing Review of Shadowboxing Classes
After finishing the Get Hooked program, I was excited to move on to the regular shadowboxing classes! The shadowboxing classes can be found in the cardio category of the platform.
The classes range from 10 minutes to 30 minutes, and have difficulty levels of beginner, intermediate, and advanced. The structure of the classes is a warmup, multiple 3 minute rounds of boxing, and a one minute active recovery after each round. Some of the classes feature a specific musical genre like hip hop or pop punk, or a specific artist like Blink-182 or EMINEM. The instructors are Kendall Toole, Selena Samuela, Rad Lopez, Jermaine Johnson, and Becs Gentry.
I’ve taken 21 Peloton shadowboxing classes and have enjoyed all of them. Peloton does seem to be adding two or three shadowboxing classes to the platform each week, not nearly as frequently as they add classes in other categories, but since I don’t take the shadowboxing classes every day there is still enough variety for me. Three of my favorite shadowboxing classes are Kendall’s 30 min Mental Health and 10 minute Blink-182 classes and Selena’s 30 min EMINEM class.
30 min Mental Health Shadowboxing with Kendall Toole
Kendall has two mental health-themed classes, one for 30 minutes and one for 10 minutes. I preferred the 30 minute class only because it was longer. I can’t think of a better mental health boost than shadowboxing. Throwing punches is such an emotional release!
My favorite song in the class was “This is Me” from The Greatest Showman. The lyric “I am brave, I am bruised, I am who I’m meant to be, this is me.” brought tears to my eyes and made me punch even harder.
Kendall ends all her classes with “They can knock you down, but they can never knock you out.” That’s especially fitting for a mental health awareness class and hit me even deeper than normal.
30 min EMINEM Shadowboxing with Selena Samuela
EMINEM’s music is great to box to! When “Lose Yourself” came on near the end of the class, I felt that natural high and burst of energy I needed to finish up the class.
Selena Samuela is a former boxer. Her classes are always challenging and kick my butt but in a good way. Selena really helps me realize how strong I actually am.
EMINEM’s great music and Selena’s toughness made this such a memorable class for me.
10 min Blink-182 Shadowboxing with Kendall Toole
This class was AMAZING! I am a huge Blink-182 fan, so when I saw they collaborated with Peloton for a boxing class I knew I had to take it! Travis Barker joined from his studio in California performing drums during the class.
It was such an incredible class, with the camera transitioning from Kendall’s instruction to Travis’ drumming. I really felt like I was in the studio taking the class live in-person with Kendall and Travis.
My only complaint about this class is that I wish it was longer than 10 minutes! I really didn’t want it to end.

Peloton Boxing Review of Boxing Bootcamp Classes
The boxing bootcamp classes can be found in the strength category of the platform. The classes range from 20 minutes to 45 minutes, and have difficulty levels of intermediate and advanced. The structure of the classes is a warmup, multiple 3-4 minute rounds of boxing, one minute active recoveries, and 1-3 blocks of strength exercises with weights. The classes focus on different areas of the body such as full body, upper body, lower body, and core. The instructors are Selena Samuela and Rad Lopez.
As a busy mom, I really enjoy the boxing bootcamp classes since they are such an efficient workout with boxing segments for cardio and weight segments for strength.
I’ve taken 9 boxing bootcamp classes and have enjoyed all of them. There aren’t as many boxing bootcamp classes as other classes on the platform so I do hope that Peloton continues to add more of these classes. Two of my favorites are Rad’s 20 min Boxing Bootcamp: Core from 11/21/22 and Selena’s 30 min Boxing Bootcamp: Lower Body from 8/23/23.
20 min Boxing Bootcamp: Core with Rad Lopez from 11/21/22
This class had such a diverse playlist! “Chicken Fried”, “Tik Tok”, and “Mr. Brightside” were some of the songs in the class.
Rad is an upbeat instructor, great at motivating you to continue even when it gets tough. I enjoyed the core strength segment in the class. There were lots of side planks which don’t always feel great in the moment but completing them is so satisfying!
30 min Boxing Bootcamp: Lower Body with Selena Samuela from 8/23/23
This class stays in my mind because I was so sore for days afterwards! There were three lower body strength segments in this class with lots of squats and lunges. The hardest part was the final segment alternating between squat jumps and punches for 5 minutes.
My arms could barely punch and my legs could barely jump by the end of the class but I was so proud of what I accomplished. I love Selena’s classes because she really pushes me beyond what I think my capacity is and helps me realize that I’m so much stronger and more capable than I think.
I really felt amazing after this class. Even though I was pretty sore, it was all worth it!
Go get hooked!
I hope this Peloton boxing review was helpful and that you’re inspired to get started yourself. These classes require minimal equipment. Shadowboxing is a great workout for stress relief, strength building, and mental toughness.
If I, someone who prior to getting a Peloton hated working out, am now hooked on Peloton’s shadowboxing classes (as well as their other classes), I know you can get hooked too! Embrace the power of Peloton boxing and let your fitness journey pack a punch.
